A surface tension lamp is one of the coolest design follies I've seen in recent years

I cant think of a more useless design but thats also magical in the way that unicorns and dragons are...... Its just WAY cool.

The lamp runs of a LED so will last almost forever and the bubbles are scientifically designed so as too hold out for as long as possible. Apparently the secret ingredient is sugar as it holds the surface together for longer (theres one for you dads out there).

As each bubble is blown it reflects the light in different ways and so the designers think that this lamp is the most expressive ever built, as during the lifetime it will produce over  3 million different globes or shades resulting in many many more different colours!!!!
